Dentistry for Laguna Woods Village

Pearl32 is on Calle De La Plata in Laguna Hills, a few minutes from the Village gates. More than 18,600 people live in Laguna Woods Village. There is no dental practice inside it, so everyone leaves the community to see a dentist. The Village bus comes to our plaza, which is where this page starts.

How do I get there without driving?

The Village bus stops in our plaza. Village residents also have a page of their own: dental care near Laguna Woods Village. It runs every day the service operates.

• The first run is at 9 a.m. The last is at 4:30 p.m.
• To confirm today’s route and pick-up time, call Village Transportation on (949) 597-4659.
• We hold appointments between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for Laguna Woods patients.

That window exists so the bus works in both directions. You are never stranded at the end of a visit. When you call, say you are coming from the Village. We will find you a time inside it.

What if I drive, or someone brings me?

Street parking is free and there are free spaces behind the building. The parking structure charges, so most people skip it.

Suite 450 is reached by elevator. There are no stairs between the car and the chair.

If a son or daughter is driving you over, tell us when you book. We will do everything we can to run to time, because their afternoon matters too.

What dental problems actually matter at seventy-five?

Dentistry at seventy-five is not dentistry at thirty-five with more gray hair. The problems are different. So is what counts as a good outcome.

Replacing teeth that are already gone

• A single implant replaces one missing tooth without touching the teeth either side of it.
• Full arch treatment replaces a whole jaw on a fixed set of implants. It is not a denture you take out.
• When several problems overlap and the bite itself has dropped, the teeth stop being separate jobs. That is full mouth reconstruction: one sequenced plan, costed in writing, with the order of work set out before anything begins.

Keeping the teeth you still have

• Gum treatment is what decides whether teeth are kept or lost at this age. Not fillings.
• Root decay behaves differently from the cavities you had at twenty. It becomes far more common once gums recede.
• Dry mouth from medication quietly accelerates everything else. It is very manageable once someone actually addresses it.
• Crowns, bridges and fillings placed decades ago start failing at the edges. A replacement crown is usually milled and fitted the same day.

Who will I see?

Dr. Nojan Jahedmanesh, DDS. He earned his dental degree at Loma Linda University. He holds a certificate in prosthodontics from UCLA and practices as a general dentist.

The dentist who starts your case is the one who finishes it. You will not be handed between people mid-treatment.

Does Medicare cover dental work?

Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care. That catches a great many people by surprise, usually at the worst possible moment.

Many Village residents carry a Medicare Advantage plan with a dental benefit, and we accept Medicare Advantage dental plans. Those benefits vary between plans, both in what they cover and in what they cap each year. The plans we are in network with are listed on the insurance page.

Bring your card, or read us the plan name over the phone. We will check what it actually covers before you commit to anything.

What will it cost?

We accept Delta Dental, Aetna, Cigna, MetLife, Guardian, Humana, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare and other major PPO plans, and the Delta Dental, Guardian and MetLife HMO plans (full list).

For any treatment beyond a routine visit you get a written estimate first, itemized. It shows what your plan is expected to pay and what it leaves you. Nobody should agree to implant treatment without seeing that on paper.

If the estimate is more than you want to pay at once, the work can be spread through an outside lender. The financing page sets out who those lenders are. The practice is not the creditor.
